Published: Wednesday, November 17, 2010 ![]() Castle Shannon Police Chief Ken Truver being presented the AAA Traffic Safety Award The platinum awards were given to “commendable leaders” for safety efforts and enforcement activities geared toward making communities safer. “We are very proud of the departments for their achievement and participation in the Community Traffic Safety Program,” said J.J. Miller, AAA safety adviser. “They went above and beyond the call of duty by organizing projects that would make their community a safer place for motorists as well as residents.” To be eligible for the annual awards, a community must conduct traffic safety promotions and educate the public on safety topics. Other recipients of the platinum awards were Pennsylvania State Police troops in Greensburg, Washington, Butler, Erie and Somerset; the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department; and police departments in Baldwin, Brentwood, Cambridge Springs, Canonsburg, Cecil, Cranberry, Edgewood, Findlay, Greensburg, Homestead, Indiana Borough, Lower Burrell, Meadville, Millcreek, Mount Lebanon, New Sewickley, North Strabane, Peters Township, Pittsburgh, Shaler, South Strabane and Swissvale.
