AAA commends police for safety programs
Published: Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Castle Shannon Police Chief Ken Truver being presented the
AAA Traffic Safety Award
Thirty Pennsylvania police departments, including Castle Shannon Borough, recently received the highest award from AAA for their community traffic safety efforts.

The platinum awards were given to “commendable leaders” for safety efforts and enforcement activities geared toward making communities safer.

“We are very proud of the departments for their achievement and participation in the Community Traffic Safety Program,” said J.J. Miller, AAA safety adviser.

“They went above and beyond the call of duty by organizing projects that would make their community a safer place for motorists as well as residents.”

To be eligible for the annual awards, a community must conduct traffic safety promotions and educate the public on safety topics.

Other recipients of the platinum awards were Pennsylvania State Police troops in Greensburg, Washington, Butler, Erie and Somerset; the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department; and police departments in Baldwin, Brentwood, Cambridge Springs, Canonsburg, Cecil, Cranberry, Edgewood, Findlay, Greensburg, Homestead, Indiana Borough, Lower Burrell, Meadville, Millcreek, Mount Lebanon, New Sewickley, North Strabane, Peters Township, Pittsburgh, Shaler, South Strabane and Swissvale.

The departments were among hundreds nationwide that participated in the Community Traffic Safety Program.
