Message from
POLICE CHIEF KEN TRUVER

December 1, 2009

As 2009 comes to a close and the Holiday Season approaches, the Castle Shannon Police Department acknowledges the support of the residents, business owners and Borough Officials. A common and repeated theme of our communication outreach is that the police department cannot operate efficiently without assistance from the people we serve. The input, suggestions, comments and points of interest/concerns from the community are welcomed and appreciated.

The monthly message would be lacking if we didn't point out additions to the website. This month we have added "Important Links" to the far right bottom of our main page. Please visit this "link" and review the descriptions of various resource information we have provided by way of easy access.

In keeping with our message of safety and security, we offer the following Holiday Crime Prevention Tips:
  1. Always be vigilant about locking doors and windows when leaving your home.
  2. Don't advertise long absences from your home. Have neighbors retrieve mail and newspapers and set light timers to give the appearance of home occupancy.
  3. If you go out for the evening, leave a radio or television on so it sounds like someone is home.
  4. On trash day, do not advertise recently acquired expensive items by placing the containers in plain view at the curb.
  5. "Buddy up" with trusted neighbors to keep watch of each other's home throughout the season.
  6. When shopping, keep alert to your surroundings.
  7. Never leave your purse/wallet unattended in a shopping cart or in your vehicle.
  8. Park in well lit areas and shop before dark whenever possible.
  9. Lock your packages, gifts and valuables in your trunk to prevent crimes of opportunity.
  10. As with any holiday, law enforcement efforts for highway safety will be increased for your safety.
Please always wear safety belts and
NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE.
Best wishes for a Happy, Healthy and Safe Holiday Season!
