WELCOMES
POLICE CHIEF KEN TRUVER
September 9, 2009

Visitors to the Borough website and the Castle Shannon Police Department page:

I'd like to introduce myself to you as the newly appointed Chief of Police.

I retired from the Mt Lebanon Police Department to take advantage of this opportunity to serve the citizens of Castle Shannon, and to work with the cadre of officers who have diligently provided law enforcement protection and loyal community service to the borough for many years.

My background includes many years of police patrol experience, service as a Watch Commander, Traffic Unit Supervisor, Division Commander and Deputy Chief of Police. I have Undergraduate degrees in Administration of Justice and Public Administration, and a Graduate Degree in Regional Planning and Geography.

I serve on the Board of Directors for Contact-Pittsburgh (the regional crisis hotline) and my son and I volunteer for the Salvation Army- Emergency Disaster Services. I also have a background in volunteer firefighting and emergency management.

My wife Joy and I live in Upper St. Clair with our 2 boys (18 and 16).

My predecessor, Chief Lane was a forward thinking administrator who initiated many valuable programs such as the K9 unit, Bicycle Program, MCSAP (Truck Safety) Inspection, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) and other activities designed to provide the borough residents with exceptional well-rounded police protection.

My goals include plans to continue these programs and to compare this agency with best practices in law enforcement, regionally, statewide and nationally, and to continue providing the Castle Shannon community with security and efficient services to the level expected of a high caliber police department.

As I orient myself to the Borough and the operation of the Police Department, I invite your comments, suggestions and input.
